Equity benchmark indices opened higher on Friday amid positive global cues. Investors will keep an eye on the key macro data which will be announced in the economic survey today.
The Sensex gained 136 points at 41,050 and the Nifty up 18 points at 12,054. Around 888 shares have advanced, 583 shares declined, and 574 shares are unchanged.
Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Auto, IndusInd Bank and ZEE are among major gainers on the NSE, while losers are ONGC, Wipro, Coal India and Power Grid.
India VIX is trading up by 0.63% at 16.90. Among sectors, except IT and metal all other indices were up in the morning session.
The Indian rupee gained by 5 paise at 71.44 per dollar in the morning trade.
State Bank of India (SBI), Hindustan Unilever (HUL), ITC, Tech Mahindra, and Vedanta Ltd are among 109 companies that are scheduled to announce their December quarter results today.
