Equity benchmark indices opened higher tracking positive global cues. The Sensex was up 122 points, and the Nifty was trading higher by 23 points at 12,376.
Maruti, Asian Paints, HCL Tech and JSW Steel were among the top gainers, while Infratel, Zee, Tata Motors and Adani Ports were the top laggards on the Nifty50.
India VIX rose 2% to 14.42.
All sectoral indices were trading in the green led by IT, banking, realty, and auto.
The Indian rupee opened marginally lower on Monday at 71.10/$ vs. Friday's close of 71.08/$.
Further, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank are among the prominent companies that will release their quarterly results this week.
Meanwhile, Asian markets edged higher this morning after the People's Bank of China kept the loan prime rate unchanged.
