Indian equity indices opened higher on Tuesday, with the Sensex up 73 points or 0.18% at 41,228, and the Nifty up 9 points at 12,128. (9.20 AM)

Sectorally, Nifty Financial Services and Auto rose 0.8% each leading gainers, while Nifty Metal was down 0.5% amid weak global cues.

BSE MidCap and SmallCap indices traded higher by 0.3% and 0.8%, respectively.

HDFC, United Spirit, Interglobe Aviation, Tata Motors, and ONGC were among the top gainers on the indices, while losers included Vedanta, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Britannia Industries, and Bharti Airtel.

As the result season advances, several companies will report their earnings today including Maruti Suzuki, CG Power and Industrial Solutions, Central Bank of India, Cummins India, Avenues, JK Lakshmi Cement, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services, Manappuram Finance, Mastek, and Ramco Systems.

The Indian rupee opened higher by 7 paise at 71.37/$.

Elsewhere, Asian markets traded weak, extending losses over the further spread of the virus outbreak. The yuan steadied. Singapore stocks lost the most among regional peers.
