Indian benchmark indices made a strong start on Thursday, with the Nifty opening above 12,200. The Sensex traded higher by 101 points at 41,407 (9.18 AM).
All sectoral indices were trading in the positive except Nifty Media, which was down by over 1% in early trade.
On the other hand, Nifty Metal was the top outperformer trading 1% higher.
Tata Steel, Hindalco, Vedanta, and Tata Motors were among the top gainers on the indices, while losers included Zee Entertainment, Titan, and UPL.
Tata Motors posted a domestic sales decline of 12% yoy in December 2019.
Meanwhile, Bharat Bond ETF issued by Edelweiss Asset Management in December will debut on the exchanges today.
On the currency front, the Indian rupee opened slightly lower at 71.25/$ vs. its previous close of 71.22/$.
Asian stocks traded mostly flat amid low volumes. Oil prices rose owing to rising tensions in the Middle East. Global benchmark Brent crude futures were up 0.3% at 66.21/bbl.
