The Indian rupee opened higher by 15 paise at 71.21 against US Dollar in the morning trade vs. previous close 71.36/$.

The local unit settled 3 paise down at 71.35 against the US dollar on Monday.

On the economy front, banks credit and deposits grew 7.21% and 9.51% to Rs100.05 lakh cr and Rs131.26 lakh cr, respectively, in the fortnight ended January 17. In the year-ago fortnight, banks advance stood at Rs93.32 lakh crore while deposits at Rs119.85 lakh cr, according to the latest Reserve Bank data.

Besides, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs1,200.27cr, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares of worth Rs1,286.63cr, as per provisional data available on the NSE.
