The Indian rupee gained 26 paise in the opening trade on Tuesday’s session amid selling seen in the American currency by banks and exporters.
The currency opened at 72.46 against US Dollar on Tuesday vs. previous close 72.74/$.
The local unit on Monday settled 50 paise down at 72.74 against the US dollar after two fresh cases of coronavirus were detected in India.
Besides, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs1,354.72cr, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs1,138.74cr, as per provisional data available on the NSE showed.
Meanwhile, benchmark indices opened higher amid gains in global peers. the Sensex is up 474 points or 1.2% at 38,640, and the Nifty up 146 points at 11,278.
