The Indian rupee fell in the morning trade after the government said on Wednesday that the number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 29, including 16 Italians touring through Rajasthan, adding all international passengers will now be screened at airports, amid growing concern over the spread of the respiratory infection.

The currency opened lower by 20 paise at 73.42 against US Dollar.

Further, the dollar gained on the back of upbeat economic data released overnight. Investors will be keeping an eye on the non-farm payrolls number that will be released tomorrow.

The rupee closed flat at 73.19 against the US currency on Wednesday.

Besides, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs878.38cr while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares of worth Rs764.13cr, as per provisional data available on the NSE showed.
