Equity benchmark indices opened higher for the third consecutive session; the Sensex rallied over 116 points and the Nifty rose 42 points in the morning trade.

Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, SBI and Bharti Airtel are among the top contributors on the Sensex pack, while losers include HDFC Bank, Infosys and HUL.

The Indian rupee gained by 11 paise at 71.68 per dollar vs. Friday's close 71.79 per dollar.

Shares of Reliance Communications hit a 52-week low at Rs0.57 on the BSE. The stock fell over 3% after company's Chairman Anil Dhirubhai Ambani has tendered his resignation as director of the company.
