Indian benchmark indices opened flat on Monday, even as global equities soared. The Sensex was trading higher by 42 points at 40,486, while the Nifty was up 10 points at 11,931. (9.19AM) amid a volatile morning.
Sectorally, all indices traded lower except Nifty Auto, Media, Metal, and Auto.
Nifty Metal traded higher by 0.8% driven by SAIL and Hindalco.
Zee Entertainment, Maruti Suzuki, Asian Paints, Hero MotoCorp, and Tata Steel were the top gainers, while Vodafone Idea, Bharti Infratel, Wipro, Axis Bank, and ITC were the top losers.
The Indian rupee opened lower by 9 paise at 71.29/$ on Monday vs. Friday's close of 71.20/$.
The US dollar was steady on Monday following surprisingly strong US jobs data.
Oil prices dipped on Monday after data showed that China’s overall exports of goods and services fell for the fourth month in a row.
US stocks finished higher on Friday after the strong jobs report and optimism regarding US-China trade talks ahead of an upcoming deadline.
