Benchmark indices extended their opening gains on Friday after opening gap-up on Friday on the back of the progress in US-China trade deal and the Conservative Party's likely win in the UK polls.

The S&P BSE Sensex was trading 336 points, or 0.83 per cent, higher at 40,910 levels. Tata Motors (up 4%), Vedanta, Tata Steel, YES Bank (all up 3%) were the top gainers in the Sensex pack. On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (down 1.5%) was the top loser.

The broader Nifty50 index surpassed the psychological mark of 12,050, and was hovering around 12,060 levels, up 86 points, or 0.7 per cent.

All the Nifty sectoral indices except Nifty Pharma index were trading in the green. Nifty Metal and Nifty PSU Bank indexes were both up 2 per cent.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index surged 110 points, or 0.76 per cent, and the S&P BSE SmallCap index was up 88 points, or 0.67 per cent.
