Indian equity indices opened higher on Wednesday, with the Sensex back above the 41,000 level. Nifty was up 60 points at 12,116. (9.24 AM)
Sectorally, all indices except Nifty Pharma traded higher. Gains were led by Nifty Metal, which was up 1.5%, followed by Nifty Realty and Auto.
Tata Steel, GAIL, Tata Motors, JSW Steel, and Bharti Airtel were the top gainers in early trade, while TCS, Dr Reddys Labs, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Wipro, and Eicher Motors were the top losers.
Quarterly results that are expected today include Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Bharat Gears, Birla Corporation, Cholamandalam Financial Holdings, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals, Escorts, Garware Polyester, Godrej Consumer Products.
The Indian rupee opened higher at 71.23/$.
Meanwhile, Asian markets on Wednesday were trading higher; Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.5%, the Topix index gained 0.25%, South Korea’s Kospi also added 0.50%, while the S&P/ASX 200 up 0.64%. Markets in China remain closed on Wednesday for a holiday.
Investors continue to weigh concerns over the ongoing virus outbreak that has infected more than 4,500 and left more than 100 dead in China.
