The Indian rupee opened lower at 71.33 against the US Dollar as investors await further details about the China respiratory virus outbreak.
The local unit on Thursday closed lower by 7 paise at 71.26 against the US dollar.

Meanwhile, gold inched lower as investors opted for riskier assets after the World Health Organisation stopped short of declaring the China virus outbreak a global emergency, but the precious metal was on track to post a weekly gain.

Further, the euro hovered near a seven-week low after ECB President Christine Lagarde struck a slightly dovish tone than some had expected.

Gold inched lower while oil prices rose marginally but remained on track for a loss of up to 5% for the week.

Besides, the foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs1,352.13cr and domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs984.56cr, as per provisional data.
