The Indian rupee opened higher by 15 paise at 71.75 against the US dollar vs. Tuesday's close of 71.85/$.
The local unit closed higher by 13 paise at 71.85 against the US dollar amid easing crude oil prices and weakening of the American currency in the overseas market.
Meanwhile, crude prices fell about 3% on Tuesday as concern about the spread of the coronavirus grew after the US government warned Americans to prepare for the disease.
Besides, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs2,315.07cr while, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares of worth Rs1,565.28cr, as per provisional data available on the NSE showed.
