The Indian rupee gained 22 paise in the early morning trade at 73.07 per dollar vs. previous close of 73.29/$.
The local unit fell 47 paise to 73.23 against the US dollar on Tuesday amid concerns over the impact of coronavirus.
Besides, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs2,415.8cr while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs3,135.24cr, as per provisional data available on the NSE.
On the economy front, the Reserve Bank on Tuesday said it is closely monitoring global as well as domestic situation regarding the impact of deadly coronavirus and is ready to take necessary action to ensure orderly functioning of financial markets, aiding market sentiments to some extent.
