Equity benchmark indices opened higher amid gains in global peers. the Sensex is up 474 points or 1.2% at 38,640, and the Nifty up 146 points at 11,278. About 1,158 shares have advanced, 391 shares declined, and 551 shares are unchanged.
ZEE, Vedanta, JSW Steel and Yes Bank are among major gainers on the NSE, while Power Grid is the only loser.
The Indian rupee opened higher by 28 paise at 72.46 against US Dollar on Tuesday vs. previous close 72.74/$.
India VIX fell 5.9% at 23.69.
All the sectoral indices were trading higher, the Nifty media index rose 3% led by Inox Leisure, ZEE and PVR. Followed by metal, banking, IT, realty and auto were up 1-2% respectively.
The most active stocks on the NSE are HDFC Bank, Reliance, Indiabulls Housing and SBI.
Asian markets were mostly trading in the green amid overnight surge on Wall Street and hopes central banks would potentially take action to combat the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak.
