Indian benchmark indices made a flat start on Thursday. The Sensex was trading higher by 5 points at 41,467, and the Nifty was up 3 points at 12,217.

Sectorally, the trend is mixed with PSU Bank and Media lagging other indices. Nifty Auto, FMCG, and Metal are trading marginally higher.

M&M, Nestle, UPL, Eicher Motors, and Titan are the top gainers on the Indices, while top losers include Bharti Infratel, RIL, Wipro, Infosys, Yes Bank and Axis Bank.

The Indian rupee opened flat at 71.27/$ on Thursday.

Asian stock markets were trading flat on Thursday morning following Christmas Day. The Shanghai Composite was up about 0.28%, the Nikkei 225 in Japan was 0.44% higher in morning trade. The Topix index also rose by 0.31%.

Oil prices rose on Thursday on the back of a potential breakthrough in the Sino-U.S. trade war and OPEC-led efforts to reduce supply.
